Last Saturday – Sunday, February 10-11, 2018, we will hold IB In-School Workshop for PYP Teachers with title “Creating Inclusive Classroom”. The In-School Workshop will be led by Mrs Richel Langit-Dursin and Mr. Sean Watt.
What does it mean creating inclusive classroom? How do we do it? The answer is differentiation. Differentiation is defined as the accommodating process by which differences between students so all students in a group have the best possible chance of learning. As the understanding and commitment to educate different types of students emerged, it has come to be considered a key skill for any teacher, especially those of mixed-ability classes. But what does it really mean?
Differentiation in classroom may refer to diffrerentiation of instruction, tasks, resources, pace, outcomes, support, and assessment. Teachers who practice differentiation in their classroom may design lessons based on students’ learning styles. They also group their students by shared interest, topic, or ability for assignments; manage the classroom to create a safe and supportive environment, and continually assess and adjust lesson content to meet students’ needs.
This IB official workshop is part of Al Jabr Islamic School professional development that will enable our teachers to develop the knowledge and skills they need to address students' learning challenges. As it is believed that effective professional development causes teachers to improve their instruction and become better educators.
